The fourth season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will be having another comic book character joining the show for the next season. AIDA (Artificial Intelligence Data Analyzer) is a robot character from the comics, and she will be brought to life by "Galavant" actress Mallory Jansen.

According to TV Line, Jansen will be one of the new cast members who will be joining the show for its fourth season. Along for the ride are Jason O'Mara, who will be playing the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D.; Parminder Nagra will play an outspoken politician with an anti-Inhuman agenda (similar to Senator Kelly of the "X-Men" franchise); and Gabriel Luna will portray Robbie Reyes, also known as Marvel's new Ghost Rider.

The character of AIDA in the comics made her first appearance way back in 1985. She was created by Thomas Thompson a.k.a. Tom Thumb of the Squadron Supreme, and even had a flirty relationship with her creator after she was imbued with a female personality.

As of now AIDA has not had any modern appearances, but her being a character in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is likely a respectful nod to the source material that the show originated from. She was actually present in the season 3 finale of the show when Doctor Radcliffe's experiment with LMD tech seemingly created a new life in the form of an AI.

It is still unclear which side AIDA will be on in the show. Some speculate if it is possible that she would be an Ultron-like villain, and knowing TV's history with sentient computers, it may not end up being pretty.

With some new characters joining the fray, the fourth season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is looking to be one great thrill ride. Who's to say what craziness lands on the show when "Doctor Strange" comes out in November?

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns to ABC on Sept. 20.
