Multinational semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is set to release two graphics processing units (GPUs) â€” the Polaris 11 and Polaris 10 â€” this year. So far, the only announced product is the Polaris 11. Many are wondering now on the possible launch of the Polaris 10 which is actually the larger GPU between the two.

The Sunnyvale-based company officially revealed the Polaris 11 Radeon RX 480 video card during their live presentation at the Computex 2016 event held in Taiwan on May 31 to June 4. The highlight was all on the Polaris 11. Meanwhile, the Polaris 10 was faintly introduced to the public; it was mentioned and talked about for less than a minute before the conclusion of the presentation.

As noted by Videocardz, the brief mention of Polaris 10 lasted for 29 seconds. The site also wrote that unconfirmed information was given to them, saying that the next graphics card based on Polaris 10 is going to be dubbed as the Radeon RX 470. It's also said to feature a variant called Ellesmere Pro.

Details regarding the Polaris 10 are still scarce, but information previously shared by WCCF Tech notes that the product is considered as the flagship chip based on the GCN 4.0 architecture. It's a midrange 14nm FinFET graphics chip that will remain as the flagship until Vega 10, the HBM2 powered high-end flagship 14nm GPU, arrives next year.

In a press release for 2016 first quarter results, AMD also revealed there the Polaris 10 is aimed at the mainstream desktop and high-end gaming notebook segment. This means that users will be provided with an architecture-based GPU that is expected to offer double the performance per watt improvement over current generation products.

Aside from that, the Polaris 10 is made for intensive workloads counting 4K video playback and virtual reality. It's also noted to have a similar setup with the Polaris 11 in the Radeon RX 480.

Previous reports stated that the Polaris 10 will be arriving in the middle of the year. Watch out for updates.
