The excitement is running high as the rumored launch of the Apple Watch 2 nears. According to reports, the smartwatch will be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next month.

Apple's June event has always been the stage the company has chosen to reveal upgrades and updates on the wearable, making it more fitting for the Apple Watch 2 to be unveiled in all its glory on the said occasion.

Last year's WWDC event marked the launch of the watchOS 2, which made the Apple Watch better by making it minimally dependent to smartphones when doing important and time-sensitive tasks.

If WWDC will be the way to go, it will be one and a half year since the original Apple Watch was released. It also falls right in line with the statement made by Barry Lam, chairman of Quanta Computer, which is Apple's partner in the production of the Apple Watch 2.

"Quanta and Apple are currently developing the second-generation of the Apple Watch, expected late next year in the second quarter," Lam said via Tech Radar.

However, there are also reports that the Apple Watch 2 will be one of the products that Apple will be launching in September. On the same month in 2014, the Apple Watch was introduced to the world.

It surely makes sense for Apple to unleash a new and improved version of the smartwatch on the same event that the original debuted. A two-year gap also seems reasonable, according to media outlets.

If that will be the case, the Apple Watch 2 will be sharing the spotlight with another rumor mill favorite— the Apple iPhone 7.

When it comes to the specs and features of the Apple Watch 2, it is expected to be much more purposeful and efficient. The biggest grumble about the first Apple Watch is that it was a bit too reliant to a smartphone, which somehow defeated its purpose.

Now, the tech giant from Cupertino focused on the Apple Watch 2 being more of a smartwatch than an extension of a smartphone. A complete redesign is also expected.

Teasing what the Apple Watch 2 has to offer, Apple CEO Tim Cook said via CultofMac:

You'll see the Apple Watch getting better and better. We're still in learning mode. We're learning fairly quickly, though. We know a lot more than we did a year ago. I think that in a few years we will look back and people will say, 'How could I have ever thought about not wearing this watch?
