The CW's "Arrow" will finally delve into the titular character's ties with the Russian mob — something that has been hinted at since the beginning of the series — when it returns for its fifth season later this year.

In a recent appearance at Wizard World Philadelphia, "Arrow" star Stephen Amell confirmed that the show will tackle that aspect of Oliver Queen's life, telling the crowd that he was "excited for the Russia thing."

The Russia storyline is expected to explain the reason for Oliver's Bratva tattoo and the real nature of his ties with the Russian mob. Solntsevskaya Bratva leader Anatoli Knyazev, who is known in the DC comics as the KGBeast, has played a significant role in "Arrow" since season 2.

"Arrow" fans have long suspected that Oliver will eventually encounter the Bratva, but it wasn't until Amell recently spoke about it that the storyline was confirmed.

During his Wizard World panel, Amell also hinted at the new villains his character will be facing in the upcoming season 5. According to the "Arrow" star, the series will be "introducing another vigilante from the DC Universe next season." With a wealth of DC characters to choose from, "Arrow" fans will be kept busy speculating about this new vigilante in the months leading up to the season 5 premiere.

Apart from dropping some major details about the season 5 main villain, Amell also said that he would like for the series to dig deeper into the story of Green Arrow and his team instead of setting up the DC universe for The Flash and the Legends of Tomorrow.

"Our villain is going to be in a lot of ways a callback to season 1," the actor said, as quoted by Screen Rant. "And that's something that you can do when you're in season 5. I think that the villain that we have coming in is really going to ground the show and take us back to some of the elements that we had in the earlier days before we introduced so many fantastical elements to the Arrowverse."

"Arrow" season 5 will return to The CW in the fall.
