There's still a long way to go before "Avatar 2" will hit theaters. Since the release of the original movie in 2009, fans have been wondering how long it will take for the sequel to come out. Fortunately, the year it will be released has already been announced and not just for part two but for the other parts of the saga as well.

According to reports, director James Cameron revealed that they are working on not just one sequel but four, with the first one slated to be premiere on Christmas 2018. Cameron and the whole production team are aiming for this schedule but if something comes up in the way, they will make the necessary adjustments.

"We haven't moved that target yet, but we will if we need to," Cameron stated in an interview with Variety. "The important thing for me is not when the first one comes out but the cadence of the release pattern," he added.

Cameron is fixed on releasing parts 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the movie with just few years apart. This means that from 2018, a series of "Avatar" films will follow until the last one comes out in 2023. According to reports, "Avatar 2" is expected to premiere in 2018, while Avatar 3" will hit theaters in 2020, followed by "Avatar 4" in 2022, and finally "Avatar 5" in 2023.

"I want them to be released as close together as possible. If it's an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, I want to make sure that we're able to fulfill on that promise," Cameron told Variety.

With so many sequels coming up, fans are curious regarding what the movies will be all about. Cameron has been quiet about it in the past but he has recently opened up a bit on what to expect in the coming sequels.

Talking about the Cirque du Soleil "Avatar" prequel titled "Toruk," Cameron mentioned how the storyline in the sequels will follow Jake (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and their children. He then said that the succeeding films will be more of a family saga rather than the struggle with the humans.

Fans who are looking forward for the return of the franchise should stay tuned for more updates soon.
