"Battlefield" fans are in for a treat as Electronic Arts (EA) is giving away free downloadable content (DLC) for "Battlefield 4" and "Battlefield Hardline" games. It is said that this offer is being done as part of their "Road to Battlefield" campaign.

With the free DLC being available across all platforms, users of PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well as PC will all get the chance to download the content and enjoy the game.

As GameSpot reported in early May, EA announced that "A new 'Battlefield' is coming later this year, and we're celebrating by keeping the action going in 'Battlefield 4' and 'Battlefield Hardline.'"

"Over the next few months, we'll be giving away previously released expansion packs for both games to anyone playing on Xbox One, Xbox 360, Origin for PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3," EA further explained. "There are also new Community Missions and a whole lot more to get excited about. Let's take a look at what's going on right now."

Now a recent report from GameSpot stated that the latest freebie is "Battlefield 4 Second Assault" expansion. Normally, it sells for $15 but is now free for Xbox One and Xbox 360 users. Despite the Microsoft exclusivity at the moment, expect this downloadable content to be given to other consoles as well.

"Second Assault" was initially released in December 2013, with four multiplayer maps which were all featured in "Battlefield 3." These maps are "Operation Metro," "Caspian Border," "Gulf of Oman," and "Operation Firestorm."

Aside from the maps, there are also five new weapons and 10 additional missions to perform.

GameSpot shared links on their site for Xbox users to download the expansion. As for other consoles, stay tuned for updates and information when the DLC can be downloaded for free.

"Battlefield 4" is a first-person shooter video which was released back in October 2013. It has been met with positive reviews and remains one of the most popular shooting games today.
