'Criminal Minds' season 12 spoilers: Yates returns with a sinister gift for Rossi

The promo for the next episode of "Criminal Minds" season 12 — the first for 2017 — has arrived and it teases that Rossi (Joe Mantegna) will be treated, rather cursed, with an unpleasant surprise.

Tommy Yates (Adam Nelson) is back on "Criminal Minds" season 12, episode 9, "Profiling 202," for his annual commitment to reveal a location of the body of his many victims.

Just like the previous time, he chooses Rossi's birthday to disclose this new information. The last time fans saw Yates was in the season 7 episode, "Profiling 101," where the agreement of revealing new details about his victims was born.

Yates takes the creepiness to the next level in "Criminal Minds" season 12, episode 9 by calling him on the phone to sing the senior agent a "Happy Birthday" song, which sounded all but happy. His gift will be in the form of the exact spot a dead body of one of his murdered victims lies.

It is unclear whether he has an endgame or is just simply messing with the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) supervisory special agent and just making sure his birthday will be horrible.

Nevertheless, it looks like Rossi will receive a surprise from Yates in "Criminal Minds" season 12, episode 9, but not exactly the kind someone who celebrates their birthday will be happy about.

"Profiling 202" has a direct connection to "Profiling 101," which is something to worry about because "101" actually refers to the number of Yates' victims.

If "202" is read in the same context as "101," the BAU may have an even bigger problem on their hands as Yates may have claimed more victims.

However, the title for "Criminal Minds" season 12, episode 9 could also be a reference to the course Rossi is taking at the moment.
