This summer in the National Basketball Association has been intense so far.

A lot of big news are popping up left and right, but nothing was bigger than Kevin Durant leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder for rivals the Golden State Warriors.

The surprising move saw Dwyane Wade leave the Miami Heat to play for the Chicago Bulls after some disputes about the money on the table for Wade.

However, one of the more surprising news that recently surfaced is that the Dallas Mavericks paid Dirk Nowitzki $50 million to play for them for two more years.

People were shocked by the amount given to Nowitzki given the fact that he never got that much money during his peak with the Mavs, even when they won the championship back in 2011.

However, many saw it as an apt price for his loyalty and hard work with the only team he has ever played in.

Now, more of the character of the German superstar was revealed in a CBS Sports report, saying that Nowitzki actually wanted a lot less than what he finally got from the Mavericks.

In an interview on Brown and Scoop, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban revealed that Nowitzki and his agent actually pitched for a lower price. Cuban revealed: "I basically told him, look, you tell me the price and it actually started lower. His agent said 'how about this much' and we said 'we'll have a little more money, we'll give you more' and as the numbers started getting bigger and bigger, it was like 'what about this number?' 'We'll give you more.' Finally, it was like 'this is what we got left, take it!'"

A report by Fan Sided went on to say that Dirk's only need was that the team would not go under rebuilding while he played. And with Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes in the team, the Mavericks are looking like a playoff contending squad.

In his 18 years in the league, Nowitzki has been selected as an All-Star player 13 times. He also won the league MVP back in 2006-07 and was the Finals MVP in the 2010-11 season where he also won an NBA championship.

He is going down as the best Dallas Maverick to ever play, and he truly deserves everything that he is getting at the moment.
