Google Nexus 2016 release date, specs news update: Huawei to produce flagship; features of device teased

Google is once again enlisting Huawei, one of China's biggest and most popular tech companies, for the Nexus 2016. The tech firm developed one of last year's Nexus flagships namely the Nexus 6P.

Huawei South Africa Consumer Business Group General Manager Charlene Munilall confirmed the Google-Huawei reunion in an interview with Gearburn, where she also talked about the popularity (or the lack of it) of Google's mobile line in the region.

"We're doing the Nexus again this year, by the way," Munilall casually revealed, before discussing why its very own Nexus 6P did not see the light of day in South Africa.

The region's top retailer Cellucity only brought in 300 of the units, but that does not mean the Google Nexus isn't a hit. She called it a "very niche product... the techies love it but there's a very small number of people that buy it."

However, her team is bringing the Google Nexus 2016 device in South Africa through Cellucity once more. It's the only way it would get there since "the operators generally don't take up the Nexus device," at least that's how it was with the Nexus 6P.

Munilall did not go into detail regarding what the Google Nexus 2016 will be all about, when it will be out or if it will be created as a successor to the Nexus 6P.

It is rumored that there will be two Nexus devices for this year and if it will be like last year, the other device might be developed by LG, which was the tech firm behind the Nexus 5X.

With regard to the features of the Google Nexus 2016, Vine Report says that for the flagship, the Google Photo feature will be revamped so that it will no longer optimize the quality of photos and videos to fit them in the storage. While doing this, it will keep its backup capacity unlimited.

The Google Nexus 2016 is expected to debut the new Android N. However, BGR reports that Google has shifted its approach in making Nexus devices. The software giant will no longer offer stock Android experience and that it will be predominantly oversee the products, particularly on the design front.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed to The Verge that despite this, they will "thoughtfully add more features on top of Android or Nexus phones."

The Google Nexus 2016 is expected to be revealed this summer along with the Android N.
