Google Nexus 2016 release date news update: Device expected in September

Google Nexus 6P | Google Nexus

It's no secret anymore that Google is releasing two new smartphones for their Nexus line. Their Nexus 5X and 6P from last year made some impression and now fans are looking forward to the 2016 models. As of the moment, official details are still limited but there are some rumors that have surfaced regarding the upcoming Nexus phones.

According to a report, there will be two Nexus smartphones again for this year. One will be for average users while the other one will be a high-end device. But unlike last year, both devices will be made by one company only, which is said to be Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer, HTC. The predecessors were made by Huawei and LG.

As to when they will be out, reports suggest that it will be unveiled in September. It is based on the recent history of Google. They released the 2015 batch in September. And unless anything comes up, it may remain the same for the 2016 batch. There are also speculations saying that it will follow the timeline of the release of Android N, which is in August.

So far, leaks have suggested that the devices are codenamed as Marlin (M1) and Sailfish (S1), with the former rumored to sport a similar design with the recently released HTC 10. If the hearsays are true, the Nexus M1 could be the high-end variant considering HTC 10's outstanding design and topnotch specifications and features.

A leaked render of the HTC Nexus 2016 smartphone circulated online and it's claiming that it appears just like the HTC 10. However, its authenticity is still cloudy since the leaked render looked like it was just a picture of the actual HTC 10 edited through Photoshop.

There are also indicators saying that the Nexus smartphone will have an upgraded processor. It is said to be equipped under the hood with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, which means it may have a better heat efficiency and power management.

The S1 is also rumored to include a 5-inch display with 1080p resolution, 32 GB of storage space, fingerprint sensor, 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera. None of the details relased are official yet so it's best to take reports with a pinch of salt.
