Over the years, Rockstar Games' "Grand Theft Auto" video game franchise has enjoyed immense success and widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike, raking in billions in revenue and maintaining a large fanbase that is always anticipating every new game release or update. Many expect the same thing to happen for the upcoming "Grand Theft Auto 6" game, which is expected to launch in the years to come.

"Grand Theft Auto 5" has broken records and has made gaming history, receiving the highest earnings in the first 24 hours since its release, as well as being the fastest entertainment property to gain a whopping amount of $1 billion. Hence, with the upcoming installment to the "GTA" series, expectations about its features and performance are through the roof.

Although Rockstar Games has yet to share any official information about their progress in developing "GTA 6," it is believed that the video game is currently in its early stages of development. And because the company is still raking in a lot of money from the success of "GTA 5" and "GTA Online," there is currently no compelling reason to rush things.

For now, one of the most compelling rumors about the upcoming "GTA" game is the report that a female protagonist will be introduced for the very first time in the game series' history. This playable character will reportedly be voiced by Hollywood actress Eva Mendes.

With the launch of a new game from the "GTA" franchise, gaming fans already expect that new cars, weapons, and properties will be featured. As for the possible location to set the game in, previous reports suggested Tokyo as the likely choice. However, Rockstar denied this speculation, deeming the Japanese city's road systems to be quite problematic to adapt to the game.

Rockstar Games is rumored to release "Grand Theft Auto 6" sometime between 2018 and 2020, alongside rumored major console launches such as the Sony PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Two.
