'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 news, spoilers: Caterina Scorsone on upcoming Meredith-Maggie feud over Riggs

Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) could find herself trading places with Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and having to come between Maggie and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) when the two inevitably clash over Riggs (Martin Henderson) in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13.

Previously, it was Maggie who would try to intervene when Amelia and her equally volatile sister-in-law Meredith would have an argument. In the upcoming season, it may be Maggie and Meredith butting heads and Amelia having to intervene.

In a recent interview for Entertainment Weekly's Spoiler Room, Scorsone said that while season 13 will open with Amelia unaware of Meredith's and Maggie's situations with Riggs, it will be fun to explore the love triangle and how everyone involved will be dealing with it.

As for whether or not half-sisters Meredith and Maggie could actually fight over Riggs, the actress said, "I don't know that they'll necessarily be at odds."

"Sisters before misters," she added. "It's possible that they'll both try and accommodate one another."

But should Maggie and Meredith have a falling out because of Riggs, Scorsone said that Amelia will be there for both of them.

"I'm sure Amelia will do whatever she can do to ease anyone's pain in that family," the actress explained.

In May, McCreary spoke to TVLine about how Maggie will take the news of her half-sister sleeping with her new crush, saying that Maggie will be "genuinely crushed."

She also said that the next phase in the sisters' relationship may be all about drawing boundaries.

"So [that closeness] has to be destroyed," the actress said. "If you're in a good place, that's not sustainable."

According to the actress, Maggie will be "heartbroken" when she learns that Meredith may be the one standing between her and a potential romance with Riggs. The revelation could damage her relationship with Meredith, the long-lost sister she had been working so hard to bond with.

"I guess the question is, does she value her relationship with Meredith more than she values her desire to find love," the actress added.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 debuts Thursday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
