'House of Cards' season 5 release date, spoilers news 2016: Frank to taste failure before death?

Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) will know what it is like to be at the bottom in "House of Cards" season 5, according to the latest reports.

According to actor Michael Kelly, who plays Frank's trusty ally Doug Stamper in the series, former showrunner Beau Willimon planned a storyline that sees his character and Frank in dire condition.

"I want to see what happens when these characters fail," Kelly said in a TheWrap interview quoting Willimon during their conversations about possible storylines for "House of Cards."

"I can write you and Kevin Spacey twirling your moustaches forever and destroying everything in your path, but I think it would be... I just want to challenge myself. I want to see what happens when they fail," he continued.

Willimon hatched this plan back in the third year of the series. It obviously did not pan out in the fourth season and it is a mystery if it will find its way to "House of Cards" season 5 or in future seasons.

However, it appears that the next season might see Frank in a distressed situation after all. For months now, it is being speculated that he will meet his demise in "House of Cards" season 5.

Rumor has it that Claire (Robin Wright) will do everything in her power to become president, even if it takes to kill her own husband.

If the reports have truth in them, "House of Cards" season 5 will see Frank at his lowest as he could lose the position he literally killed for to the woman who he thinks is on her side.

The original "House of Cards" adaptation saw Frank's counterpart dead. If the Netflix hit is going the same route, Frank's days as the highest of the highest are numbered.

"House of Cards" season 5 has no release date yet but it is expected to be released early next year on Netflix.
