iMac 2016 release date, specs rumors update: Desktop to use Polaris 10 GPUs, promises excellent VR and gaming performance?

For the iMac 2016, Apple is expected to make use of the new Radeon RX series from AMD (Advanced Micro Devices), which suggests that the company is serious in padding out the graphics department of its desktop computer.

According to Bloomberg, the new iMac will utilize AMD graphics cards, but did not specify which one. But considering that Apple likes to stay on top of technology advancements, the company might go for the RX 400 series.

As reported earlier this year, the tech giant based in Cupertino will use both the Polaris 10 and Polaris 11 graphics cards for its next computing devices although the iMac 2016 is expected to exclusively draw on the former as it is the more powerful of the two.

AMD recently released the RX 470 and RX 480, both using the Polaris 10 architecture. The former offers premium high definition gaming while the latter is all about top-of-the-line, immersive Virtual Reality (VR) experience.

The graphics cards, as per Radeon Technologies Group senior vice president and chief architect Raja Koduri, are "extremely power efficient" and went so far as to describing them as their "most revolutionary jump in performance so far."

With that said, the iMac 2016 will pack some serious power that will make gamers and VR fanatics happy. The hardware should make for amazing gaming experience altogether.

Other specifications the new iMac is believed to come in include a Thunderbolt 3 port as well as USB 3.1 support, making it up to date.

With regards to the release date, the iMac 2016 is expected to be launched by Apple next month along with the new MacBook Pro and a standalone 5K display in another keynote event.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has already said that the company is committed to the Mac line, and teased that they have surprises for fans of the products soon.
