Harrison Ford has been confirmed to reprise his iconic role in "Indiana Jones 5" although "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" star Megan Fox hopes to take up the mantle when Ford is ready to pass the torch.

By the time the fifth "Indiana Jones" movie hits the theaters, Ford will be 77. Since the belief is that the franchise will go on for longer years, a younger actor is expected to take up the role of the whip-wielding archeologist.

Although Disney hasn't expressed interest in rebooting the franchise after "Indiana Jones 5," Fox sets her eyes on giving a new take on the cult-favorite character, and hopes to add a little twist by turning Indy into a female adventurer who probably still loves a good fedora.

"I'd go with Indiana Jones, since I always loved how fun and free-spirited Indiana is," Fox told Gamespot when asked which characters she'd like to portray.

"He's an adventurous rogue archaeologist who barely escapes death chasing down treasures among the earth's most mysterious sites. What's not to love?" she added.

A female Indiana Jones already exists in the form of Lara Croft. It was Fox's top choice, but Oscar winner Alicia Vikander was already chosen to breathe new life to the feisty buccaneer in the "Tomb Raider" reboot.

Of course, Fox's statement does not mean that "Indiana Jones 5" won't see Ford as Indy, who brandished the whip in all four "Indiana Jones" films. But with the release of a "Ghostbusters" movie featuring female protagonists instead of males as the original, the idea is not that outrageous.

Anna Kendrick from "Pitch Perfect" even played Indiana Jones for an NBC sketch and majority of the fans loved it. So, the possibilities are endless when it comes to iconic and lucrative franchises like "Indiana Jones."

There are no details about the plot for "Indiana Jones 5," which, should Disney consider Fox's idea, might end up including the "Transformers" star likely as a sidekick to Ford's Indiana Jones. At the moment, fans can bet that the new "Indiana Jones" film will still star Ford.

As for those worried the "Star Wars" favorite will be retiring the role, they can find assurance in the words of Steven Spielberg, who directed the "Indiana Jones" films.

"There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that's Harrison Ford," the filmmaker told Screen Daily.

"Indiana Jones 5" is slated to release July 19, 2019.
