The "Injustice 2" will be a whole lot bigger when NetherRealms Studios starts its flow of downloadable content (DLC) with the developer set to take on a new approach with its post-launch releases.

"One of the things we've been doing, trying to do more and more with every game... is to support it for a longer period of time," creative director Ed Boon told IGN.

Boon suggested that they will release four additional DLCs for "Injustice 2" than the amount they released in the original. This means that the sequel is getting a total of 10 expansion packs.

This is part of the developer's plan to be "more aggressive" in the DLC department. Unfortunately, he had no details to share on which characters will be added via expansion packs.

"Injustice 2" brings back the superheroes and villains from the original game and adds new ones such as Supergirl and Gorilla Grodd (both made famous in the small screen in the past year), Atrocitus and Aquaman.

Locations in the fighting game sequel include very familiar comic book settings such as Metropolis, Gotham City and even Atlantis. It is yet to be made clear if the upcoming DLCs will also add new arenas.

NetherRealms developed a new gear system in "Injustice 2," which allows players to personalize their chosen DC Comics characters with various gears.

Players can earn new gears by devoting time and playing through the game to make progress. However, NetherRealms is looking to offer pay-to-unlock for those who want to take the shortcut.

With regards to the story, "Injustice 2" continues the story established in the original game, which takes place in an alternate universe where Joker tricked Superman into killing Lois Lane and his son, leading him to start a dictatorship.

"Batman and his allies work towards putting the pieces of society back together while struggling against those who want to restore Superman's regime. In the midst of the chaos, a new threat appears that will put Earth's existence at risk," the description for the game reads.

"Injustice 2" will out in the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sometime next year.
