Fighting video game "Injustice 2" has finally been announced. After being at the top of the rumor mill before E3 2016, Warner Bros. Interactive finally confirmed the speculations by officially unveiling the sequel of "Injustice: Gods Among Us."

Fans were also treated to a sneak peek with the 15-minute gameplay video featuring some of the returning characters like Superman and Batman as well as newcomers like Gorilla Grodd, Atrocitus and Supergirl. A lot is in store for the second installment of the game as developer NetherRealm Studios divulged that they are going to add in more characters.

According to IGN, creative director Ed Boon revealed that they will be following a "more aggressive" approach when it comes to the game's future DLCs. They are planning to support their games for a longer period of time.

"With DLC characters, we've had four with Mortal Kombat, six with Injustice, eight with Mortal Kombat X, and with Injustice 2 we plan on continuing that pattern," Boon stated. "It will certainly be more aggressive than we've been in the past."

Boon did not give away further details such as how many characters will be added or if "Injustice 2" will be getting new stages during the post-launch support. But in a report by PlayStation Lifestyle, Boon revealed that the game will be having some guest characters. The ones he mentioned are the most downloaded "Mortal Kombat X" characters which are Alien and Predator. Another report also noted that the game's roster will have more girl power.

Moreover, Boon revealed that there will also be loot drops and a new gear system, which will permit players to customize their character. They will also put the option of unlocking game content in two ways — extensive playtime, or pay-to-unlock model for those who don't have all the time to access those characters.

"Injustice 2" is slated to arrive sometime in 2017.
