'Injustice 2' release date, characters news 2016: Sequel to have guest characters

"Mortal Kombat X" creator Ed Boon recently spoke about the inclusion of guest characters in "Injustice 2," during an interview with Game Informer.

Boon believes that 'Injustice 2" will once again feature a fighter who isn't from the DC Comics world, the way they did with Scorpion from "Mortal Kombat," who turned out to be the most downloaded character in the game.

"I always think there's a novelty to it and there's a certain amount of people who think that when they see a guest character that it took the slot of a DC character that they wanted to have," Boon said.

"But you know, Scorpion in Injustice was the most downloaded of all the characters. There was a coolness and a novelty factor to seeing the mixing of the things. Alien and Predator in Mortal Kombat X were the most downloaded of those, so I would be surprised if we didn't do any of that [in Injustice 2]," he continued.

Boon did not give any details as to who might make it in "Injustice 2" this time. This remains the subject of excitement for fans, apart from the actual release of the fighting game itself. Boon is very much open to suggestion on this one.

Boon recently said that developer NetherRealms Studios will take a "more aggressive" approach in releasing downloadable content (DLC) characters in "Injustice 2."

With regards to the roster for "Injustice 2," new characters were added to join Superman, Batman, Joker, The Flash and the whole crew. Atrocitus, Supergirl and Gorilla Grodd will be playable in the game.

The characters will also be more personalized than ever before, which means that players can equip the superheroes and villains with gears and weapons they want them to use, regardless of what they are known for.

In "Injustice 2," Boon said via Comic Book Resources that "You're constantly upgrading and sculpting your version of the character."

"Injustice 2" will be released sometime in 2017.
