'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date update: To be unveiled at E3 2016, but PS4 launch not expected this year

A lot of fans have been excited upon hearing the rumors that "Kingdom Hearts 3" is currently under development. However, there is no official confirmation from Square Enix regarding the status of the game and the possible release date of the new "Kingdom Hearts" sequel. Still, people have their hopes up that the game will be up in the near future, especially that the latest reports point to a possible appearance of "Kingdom Hearts 3" in the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016.

It has been reported that Square Enix will likely showcase "Kingdom Hearts 3" during E3 2016 where the tech and game enthusiasts all over the world will gather to get the latest scoop in the electronic entertainment world. Also, "Kingdom Hearts Unchained X" game producer Hironori Okayama said in an interview with The Koalition that gaming fans can expect to know more about the upcoming "Kingdom Hearts" sequel during the event.

However, even though the game will be unveiled at E3 2016 this coming June, "Kingdom Hearts 3" is not likely to be released in PlayStation 4 console this year.

PlayStation Lifestyle reported Square Enix revealing their roster of video game titles scheduled for release in the current fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2017. The list of new game offerings includes "Final Fantasy XV," "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided," "Rise for the Tomb Raider," "World of Final Fantasy," "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue," among others. However, the same publication noted that "Kingdom Hearts 3" is not included in Square Enix's list for this year. The highly anticipated remake of "Final Fantasy VII" did not make it to the cut, either.

It is possible that Square Enix will choose to formally launch "Kingdom Hearts 3" in the next fiscal year due to the number of video games already planned by the game studio in 2016. Although, Square Enix also noted that the reported slide of game titles does not show all of the game projects being developed by the company this year.

Square Enix game director Tetsuya Nomira revealed that the upcoming sequel will feature three new playable characters. Apart from Sora, the players will have more variety of characters with different sets of skills to choose from. Also, Nomura stated that there will be a few modifications in the battle system for the "Kingdom Hearts 3" as there will be some changes coming from his creative direction while other changes will be made in line with the main story.
