"Longmire" season 5 premiered on Netflix on Sept. 23, and avid fans have probably finished watching the current season's new episodes. Now the question looms: Will the show see a sixth season?

The hype for the fifth and current installment of "Longmire" was too much, with fans excitedly waiting for its release date. Now that all 10 episodes are available for streaming on Netflix, fans want to know if the streaming site has renewed the series based on Craig Johnson's novels for a sixth season.

It will be recalled that the series used to air on A&E, but the cable network canceled it after the third season. Bustle notes that Netflix has a flair for picking up shows that other networks canceled especially if these show potential or are well-loved by fans. It's very seldom that Netflix cancels shows on air, so fans are optimistic that "Longmire" will not suffer the same fate as "Bloodline."

Moreover, those who binge-watched season 5 already know that it ended with a cliffhanger. That said, a follow-up season is necessary to tie up any loose ends left from the current season.

Rumors of the show's cancellation have been hounding the Internet, and it was actor Lou Diamond Phillips (Henry Standing Bear) himself who replied to a fan via Twitter that season 5 is not the show's last. His dismissal of the cancellation rumors and subsequent assurance that the cast and crew will be back will hopefully tide fans' anticipation over as they wait for news regarding the show's sixth season.

The popularity of "Longmire" is enough to bring in new subscribers to Netflix. Add to that the multiple positive and favorable reviews that each episode of the series has gotten over years, and Netflix obviously has a gem on its hands.

In fact, FabNewz says Nancy De Wolf Smith of The Wall Street Journal described the series as "the best of two worlds: a modern crime drama with dry wit and sometimes heart-wrenching emotion that's also got a glorious setting under the big sky of Wyoming." She goes on to say that, "If it weren't for a few modern conveniences, like cell phones and trucks, it might as well be 1875, so rugged and unspoiled does the scenery look."

With feedback like that, it's highly likely that Netflix will consider renewing "Longmire" for season 6.
