'Marco Polo' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Benedict Wong to return as Kublai Khan?

Netflix's web TV series "Marco Polo" has not been renewed for a third season as of writing, but fans are hopeful that it will be back for more.

According to reports, the series, which is inspired by the life of Venetian merchant Marco Polo, was rumored to be canceled in the middle of its second season. But since nothing has been confirmed yet, "Marco Polo" isn't dead.

The show also garnered good ratings. As detailed in a report, the series was able to get a score of 8.1 out of 10 from at least 40,000 users. Apparently, the show's diverse cast and impressive martial arts scenes have helped in getting it a solid fan base. The question now is when the network will give "Marco Polo" season 3 a green light.

Reports say that one of the reasons why the show is potentially going to be dissolved is because of one of the main stars, Benedict Wong. He reportedly was not coming back to portray his character, Kublai Khan, because of other commitments, including his latest project with Marvel Cinematic Universe "Doctor Strange" starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Wong will play the role of Doctor Strange's sidekick and valet whose name is also Wong. The movie will premiere in November, thus Wong's busy schedule. But some sources have mentioned that there is no truth to Wong's departure from the Netflix original. In fact, he is waiting for the confirmation of the series renewal.

Lorenzo Richelmy, who plays Marco Polo, is also just waiting for the go signal of Netflix. He has also ventured to other projects, but reports say that he assured his fans that he will not leave the series.

However, if the show continues, speculations suggest that it will be featuring a new storyline which involves love. It is said that it will focus on Khan's downfall and failure to dominate the west.

Fans will have to stay tuned to get updates regarding "Marco Polo" season 3.
