'Marco Polo' season 3 spoilers news: Show's fate still in limbo, Benedict Wong to exit?

Netflix aired the entirety of "Marco Polo" season 2 earlier this month, but the streaming giant has not yet greenlighted a third installment for the historical drama. This led to speculations that the show has been canceled due to a significant drop in ratings as well as budget constraints.

Season 1 was well-received by audiences which earned the series an early renewal from the network. Wong's performance in the first two seasons was lauded by critics because of his strong presence as the Mongol leader. Fans also praised him through social media for promoting diversity in the mainstream entertainment industry. Unfortunately, there are reports claiming that Kublai Khan will not be alive for too long if the story continues.

Season 3 will reportedly shift the attention from the Chinese ruler to Prester John and the mystery surrounding his character. After entering the picture last season, fans have been wondering about his origins since he will probably be the main antagonist in the new chapter. He was previously described by the Pope as "cunning" and "merciless" which means that he is definitely one character fans should look out for.
