The fourth season of ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns to the small screen next month and another new character will be on board. After a stint in "Galavant" as a princess, actress Mallory Jansen has been recently tapped to join the hit action program for a key role.

Jansen will portray the robot character named Aida, who was previously seen as  Dr. Radcliffe (John Hannah)'s personal A.I. in the last moments of the season 3 finale. The same episode also featured Radcliffe giving Aida a new robotic form as the first Life Model Decoy.

Other newcomers for this coming season include Jason O'Mara as the mysterious new Director, Parminder Nagra as an influential political figure who openly expresses her distrust for Inhumans and Gabriel Luna as Ghost Rider a.k.a. Robbie Reyes.

Season 3 left off with a six-month time jump wherein Coulson is no longer the "S.H.I.E.L.D." Director. The upcoming fourth season will see why Coulson left his post in the covert organization as well as the introduction of the team's new leader. Speaking with TV Line, co-showrunner  Maurissa Tancharoen hints that the Director's arrival will pave the way for a "new dynamic" that will shake the story up. O'Mara's character name has yet to be revealed, but the actor says: "It's a manly name. Yes, a very manly name."

Meanwhile, Daisy (Chloe Bennet) continues to deal with the unfortunate events in season 3 when the show returns. After the death of her boyfriend Lincoln (Luke Mitchell), Daisy decided to leave the S.H.I.E.L.D. team and go rogue. According to Bennet, Daisy wants time alone to focus on "protecting the people she cares about and protecting herself and giving herself some space." The actress adds that her character will be "channeling Avril Lavigne-slash-living in a van," which could possibly mean that she will use her old car from when she was still Skye.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
