Michael Schumacher health condition news update: Formula One champ honored; still in recovery

Formula One (F1) champion Michael Schumacher remains in the minds and prayers of fans as he continues recovery at his home in Switzerland after his accident in the French Alps more than three years ago.

In a recent post on its official Twitter account, F1 remembered Schumacher's epic showing during the 1996 San Marino GP, where he finished second place even though one of the wheels on the front of his car stopped working mid-race.

For the final lap of the race, Schumacher only had three wheels pushing him to the finish line, but this did not stop him from closing on racer Damon Hill, who won the race that time.

The love and support of fans were overflowing on that post. Fans described Schumacher a legend and one of the greatest drivers in F1's history. The post also proved that the seven-time F1 champion is deeply missed.

Schumacher is still recuperating from his skiing accident that happened in 2014. There has been no official news about his health condition as the family chose to keep it all private.

He was transferred to his home by Lake Geneva after waking up from a medically induced coma. Last year, a source told Express that his health progress is "painfully slow."

Around that time, consultant and spinal surgeon Peter Hamlyn told the same publication that for injuries like the Schumacher sustained, it might take years to see real, big progress.

He explained that head injuries often take a while to heal and this might be the case for Schumacher. Hamlyn then described the tedious journey to recuperation.

"The first months are dominated by questions of survival. Gradually as the weeks and months go by, those questions of survival turn into questions of the quality of survival," he said.

The legendary racer's family is thankful for fans for their unending supports and prayers. On Schumacher's website, a message from them said that they "remain confident and hope for the best" for the racing champ.
