'Mistresses' season 4 finale recap: Did Karen die in season 4 finale?

"Mistresses" ended its fourth season with a two-part finale that aired on Monday and Tuesday. The Sept. 5 episode titled "Back to the Start" left fans in shock when one of the main characters of the series appeared to have died. However, the question lurks, "Did she?"

In the episode, Karen's (Yunjin Kim) nanny woes continued when Lydia (Alanna Masterson) attempted to commit suicide in front of Karen after the latter fired her. It will be recalled that Lydia posed as Karen on an online dating service, and while it yielded awesome results for Karen (she got to meet Adam, after all), the nanny had a hard time moving on from the consequences of her actions. Karen tried to stop Lydia, but in the process ended falling to her death.

In the Sept. 6 episode titled "The Show Must Go On," the funeral scene seemed to underscore the fact that Karen really did die. Joss (Jes Macallan) even gave a poignant eulogy where she described her friend as a "superhero without the cape...wigs, maybe, but not the cape." There was even a reference to Savi (Alyssa Milano), one of the original stars of the series, who's apparently eight months pregnant and living in Malaysia.

One of the most moving scenes of the evening was in Karen's apartment where April (Rochelle Aytes) and Joss went to with the others after the funeral. Joss proposes a toast to Karen, and says "Bye, lady" before closing the door and leaving.

The episode saw a one-year time jump after Karen's funeral in which April sees a shadowy figure at Maison Sur Mer. The person was wearing one of Karen's old dresses, making April wonder who the stranger was. Inside the coffee shop, the barista unwittingly mentions that she saw April's friend after a long time, even showing April "Karen's" receipt with her fancy cursive signature.

This gets April and Joss wondering why not one of them identified Karen's body when she died. Moreover, they learned that her ashes never arrived in Korea.

The final scene of the season 4 finale was the shocker. A woman with a shiny black hair enters the coffee shop and goes straight to April. When April asks, "Can I help you?" the stranger responds, "I hope so. I'm Karen Kim."

So did Karen die or not? Hopefully, ABC orders "Mistresses" season 5 so fans and viewers will find out the answer to that million dollar question.
