There is a growing speculation that the lead character of Netflix original series, "Narcos" will finally meet his end in the upcoming second season. The hit crime drama thriller recounts the story of the popular Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, showing his long and winding journey from being a low-class drug dealer to one of the most fearsome drug syndicate leaders in Colombia's history. As the first season already covered most of Escobar's experience in the criminal underworld prior to the fateful date of his death, it is speculated that season 2 will be the last chapter for the character.

The latest rumors, however, suggest that Escobar's journey might not yet end with "Narcos" season 2 as the upcoming season might focus on the character's series of escape from Colombia's police forces. Pablo Escobar's actor himself, Wagner Moura revealed in an interview with Netflix's talk show "Chelsea" that his character will be seen running away from the authorities for the majority of the second season.

"It's all about Pablo on the run.... It's from the day Pablo escapes to his death," said Moura as reported by the Entertainment Weekly.

The possibility of Escobar's death in season 2 is still up in the air, although the latest official teaser of "Narcos" Season 2 has already hinted on the character's demise. It is expected that the second season will show more of Escobar's attempts to break out of prison and his continuous run-ins with the law to protect the huge drug organization that he had formed over the years.

The teaser trailer also reveals the date Sept. 2, which is the expected premiere date of "Narcos" season 2 on Netflix with all ten episodes uploaded for online streaming.

The end of Escobar in the series might already be inevitable as "Narcos" executive producer and showrunner, Eric Newman, told Slash Film via Crossmap that they have no choice but to show Escobar's death in season 2.

"Trust me, if we could find a way to keep him alive and keep Wagner on the show... He will die," Newman said. "There are any number of things that can happen after. We have not committed to one or the other. Obviously, there are a lot of other stories in this world that continue on beyond him."

However, even with the death of Escobar, there is a possibility that the series itself will continue even without the lead character of the first two seasons. It was also revealed by Newman that the show can continue without the popular Colombian drug syndicate leader as there are a plenty of drug world storylines that they can follow. "Narcos" can still cover the rise of Cali Cartel after Escobar's death for the third season.
