Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his team will soon be returning to CBS, and the head of the NCIS team will go undercover as his former alias to tag along with the anti-government militia. Meanwhile, Palmer (Brian Dietzen) will surprisingly risk his life in one of NCIS' missions.

"NCIS" season 14 will soon return in a few weeks, and the first episode back, titled "Off the Grid," features Gibbs being hands-on in the team's mission.

The synopsis posted on The Futon Critic reads, "After Gibbs spots the brother of an "NCIS Most Wanted" suspect, he immediately assumes his former alias and goes undercover with their infamous anti-government militia. Also, Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Reeves (Duane Henry) partner on an off-the-books investigation."

While Gibbs is busy on a lead, Bishop and Reeves will be doing an investigation of their own. It is speculated that the two will find information about who and why Qasim Naasir (Rafi Silver) was targeted. Qasim was last seen struggling for his life and put on a support system machine to stay alive.

Bishop and Reeves might have good intentions with their secret mission, but it is possible that the two will only cause more trouble by garnering unwanted attention to their team and Qasim's condition.

Meanwhile, in the following episode, titled "Willoughby," Palmer will surprise everyone by risking his life on a mission.

The synopsis posted on Cartermatt, "During an NCIS hit-and-run investigation, Palmer joins a stranger on the outside ledge of a building in an attempt to save his life."

Premiering on Jan. 24, the episode will feature Palmer reaching out to someone on the ledge of a building in an attempt to save his life. It is anticipated that "Willoughby" will highlight Palmer in the majority of its run, given that the character will exhibit a big heroic act.

"NCIS" returns on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
