Nvidia has once again introduced a new graphics processing unit (GPU) called the GTX Titan X, which is actually the same name of a model released in 2015. It comes just a few months after the GTX 1080 and 1070 arrived and just a week after the arrival of the 1060.

According to the official blog of Nvidia, the development of the single chip started out as a bet between CEO Jen-Hsun Huang and top hardware engineer Brian Kelleher. It ended with the team able to produce the biggest GPU that is based on the company's new Pascal GPU architecture.

As reported on AnandTech, Huang announced the Titan X during an engagement at Stanford University. He also revealed that interested consumers will not need to wait for it for too long as they will start shipping the new flagship video card on Aug. 2.

Based on the GP102 GPU, the new card is equipped with 3,584 cores with a base clock of 1417MHz and a boost clock of 1531MHz. It has 12 GB of GDDR5X memory and delivers a quoted 11 teraflops of performance. It's noted that the Titan X has a slower clock compared to the GTX 1080, which ships at 1607MHz and 1733MHz. But since the latter's cores are higher than the former by 40 percent, it compensates for the 12 percent decrease in clock.

As for its memory specs, the official website indicated that the card is made with a new 384-bit memory bus and offers a 480 GB/s of memory bandwidth. It also comes with a memory speed of 10 Gbps. Moreover, it is equipped with TSMC 16nm manufacturing process and 12B transistors.

In terms of the design, the Titan X is designed with vapor chamber cooling technology in a die-cast aluminum body. It's 4.3 inches in height and 10.5 inches in length. Its width is 2-slot.

The new Titan X will be available for purchase soon on Nvidia.com with a price tag of $1,200. It will land in North America and Europe first. Its availability in Asia will be announced soon.
