PlayStation 4 Slim release date news update: Slim Controller revealed in latest leak

Sony is not exactly famed for keeping a tight lid on the lead-up to its tech reveals. Recently, a number of leaked images and seemingly believable videos of the rumored PlayStation 4 Slim console have been making rounds online. To complement the redesigned console version, new leaks have emerged that offer a glimpse at the PlayStation 4 Slim's controller.

A video purportedly showing the Slim controller was originally shared on YouTube by a user who goes by the name of ZRZ. However, the footage has since been removed on copyright grounds. Luckily, some pictures have appeared on tech blog Engadget.

The video leak showed a number of minor peripheral upgrades to the original controller which came out during the 2013 launch of Sony's fourth-generation console platform. As reported by Polygon, a light now shines through the touchpad's transparent portion which replaces the indicator light currently found on the existing PlayStation 4 model.

So far, no information has been provided whether the changes would also solve the controller's battery life. The PlayStation 4 controller eats up a lot of battery life which can only extend up to five gameplay hours on a single charge. The battery life of Xbox One's controller, however, could stretch out for 24 hours. A report by Tech Times explained that it may be due to the light bar which may have been designed to work with PlayStation's virtual reality headgear and other related accessories.

Meanwhile, a report by Digital Trends mentioned of Sony's planned tech reveal in New York on Sept. 7 to official introduce PlayStation 4's upcoming console models which will likely include the widely leaked Slim and the highly anticipated high-end device codenamed Neo. Next month's presser may no longer be an exciting event to look forward to considering how much information was prematurely leaked to the media. News over Sony's PlayStation Neo started to emerge in the lead-up to this year's Electronic Entertainment Event in June. And just weeks prior to the official product introduction of Slim and Neo, tons of leaked images have begun to dampen the excitement.
