While there have been various theories about how to force turn Eevee into a specific evolution in "Pokemon GO," avid players of the augmented reality mobile game seem to have finally figured out a successful hack.

Eevee, which is known in Japan as Eievui, can evolve into three more powerful variants of itself in "Pokemon GO." These are Vaporeon (representing Water), Flareon (representing Fire), and Jolteon (representing Electricity).

In "Pokemon GO," if a player wants to have all three Eevee evolutions, they would have to acquire no less than three Eevees. Each Eevee requires 25 candy to evolve.

Recently, it was revealed that "Pokemon GO" players can actually control Eevee's evolution process such that they can choose among the resultant characters.

The first step is, of course, catching Eevee. After that, the Pokemon can be transformed into Vaporeon, Flareon, or Jolteon.

Interestingly, the new hack uncovered by players is an Easter egg of sorts to the original "Pokemon" anime.

In the original anime, the Eevee brothers were named Pyro, Sparky, and Rainer. According to GameRant, Niantic seems to have inserted a clever reference to the brothers in "Pokemon GO" because to control Eevee's evolution, one only has to rename Eevee into one of the brothers.

To evolve Eevee, players should open the menu and tap on the Eevee they want to evolve. They should then tap on the edit button beside Eevee's name and type in the appropriate name.

Those who want to get Vaporeon should type "Rainer." Those who want a Jolteon should type "Sparky" while those after a Flareon should type "Pyro."

GameRant suggests making sure that the first letter of the name is capitalized for the hack to work.

After the Eevee has been renamed and saved, players should close the game all the way and restart it. Reddit users who said that they skipped this part reported that the trick didn't work for them.

After players tap on evolve, they should then get the Eevee evolution of their choice. GameRant reported a 100% success rate using this hack.

According to Polygon, while many have confirmed that the method works, The Pokemon Company has not commented on its validity.
