'Pretty Little Liars' season 7 spoilers: Emison faces new but familiar hurdle

Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Alison (Sasha Pieterse) in "Pretty Little Liars" season 7 | PLLTV

"Pretty Little Liars" executive producer Marlene King when she said that season 7 will be the "season of homecomings." It was recently announced that Paige (Lindsay Shaw) will return.

Paige hasn't been on the show since the fifth, but she's back in Rosewood, perhaps ready to end the hopes of Emison fans for Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Alison (Sasha Pieterse) to get back together.

Shaw's character moved to California when fans last saw her, and it is unclear why she feels the need to return to Rosewood again in "Pretty Little Liars" season 7.

TV Fanatic suggests that it might have something to do with the time Emily and Paige got in touch during the five-year time jump. The Hollywood Reporter teases that the two may have rekindled their romance.

No matter what happened in that interaction in the said time jump, it is expected to be revealed in "Pretty Little Liars" season 7. It should also shed some light on Paige's sudden homecoming.

Of course, Emison shippers think this is a bad time, especially because Alison is also single now (sort of), albeit in serious danger.

Her husband turns out to be a vicious psychopath and he plans to torture his beloved wife, as seen in the trailer for "Pretty Little Liars" season 7.

Paige's return certainly gave Emison fans to worry about in the next season, although TV Fanatic believes that Emily will be happy to see her once more. However, she might be too busy to give her all the attention.

Apart from Paige, Jenna (Tammin Sursok) and Noel (Brant Daugherty) will also be back in "Pretty Little Liars" season 7, presumably to make the lives of Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Emily, Alison and Hanna (Ashley Benson) if she is still alive, much more difficult.

When fans return to Rosewood, the liars will be on their quest to save Hanna.

"Pretty Little Liars" season 7 premieres Tuesday, June 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
