'Prometheus 2' will be known as 'Alien: Covenant'; new creatures to be featured

The sequel to the 2012 science fiction-horror film "Prometheus" looks like it will have a new name and a story that will be quite different from its predecessor. Now dubbed as "Alien: Covenant," the movie is expected to offer a new direction from the previous film and the other classic "Alien" films. This could mean that the fans' understanding of the Xenomorph, the prime alien creature of the film franchise, might be limited in the upcoming movie. It was also reported that at least two new species of alien creatures will be introduced in the "Prometheus" sequel.

In an interview with Collider regarding the Blue-Ray and DVD home video release of 2015's hit science fiction film "The Martian," costume designer Janty Yates answered some question about the anticipated "Prometheus" sequel. It is to be noted that Yates has also worked with Ridley Scott, the director of movies from the original "Alien" franchise and "Alien: Covenant."

While the interview was about "The Martian," Yates also found time to talk about "Prometheus," revealing that the first "Prometheus" film setting will be a decade behind that of the upcoming "Alien: Covenant." She stated in particular that the "Prometheus" sequel or "Alien: Covenant" is set "ten years in the future beyond Prometheus," and if the first "Prometheus" has the sTory set in the year 2093, the setting of "Alien: Covenant" will be around year 2103.

In an interview with The Australian via Bloody Disgusting website, Ridley said that fans can expect new extraterrestrial creatures to appear in the sequel, adding that he wants "to create something real and scary" in the next "Prometheus" movie.

Meanwhile, a synopsis was revealed at IMDB website for "Alien Covenant."

"Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in 'Alien' with 'Alien: Covenant', the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with 'Prometheus' - and connects directly to Scott's 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world - whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic' David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."

According to IMDB, "Alien: Covenant" will be released in 2017.
