PS4 Platinum Wireless Headset release date, specs, price news: Gaming headset with 3D Audio to arrive in January 2017

Sony has announced that it will be releasing the Platinum Wireless Headset for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) on Jan. 12, 2017. The premium gaming headset will be available for $159.99.

According to the PlayStation blog, the new wireless headset will come with 7.1 virtual surround sound that is powered by the company's proprietary 3D audio technology. With PS4 games that support for 3D Audio, players will gain an immersive experience as it will feel like audio is arriving from different directions and distances, mimicking sound in real life.

Alongside the release of the PS4 Platinum Wireless Headset next year, Naughty Dog will be releasing a patch for "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" enabling players to experience 3D Audio. Soon after, games like "MLB The Show 17," "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" and "Days Gone" will also gain support for 3D Audio. More titles will gain compatibility down the line. PS4 gamers will also be able to tune the headset with different audio modes via the companion app found on the PlayStation Store.

Aside from immersive audio, the Platinum Wireless Headset also comes with noise-cancelling microphones for clear and crisp communication. Sony assures players that they will not be distracted by outside noise no matter how they are wearing the headset.

Furthermore, Sony's new headset features a premium build and stylish design. It is durable and comfortable to wear even during prolonged gaming sessions. The extended-life battery also ensures that players will not be bothered by always having to recharge the headset.

The Platinum Wireless Headset will also be compatible with the PlayStation VR and other mobile devices via the 3.5 mm audio cable. The box also includes a wireless adaptor, a micro-USB charging cable and a travel pouch.
