'Quantico' season 2 news and updates: EP gives teasers on Alex's new role in the CIA, 'Looking' alum Russell Tovey joins cast

"Quantico" had a promising freshman run, and the show being renewed for another season by ABC did not come as a surprise to the viewers.

Alex's (Priyanka Chopra),journey as an FBI recruit was full of ups and downs, but it might be time for her to move to another organization. Season 1 wrapped up with Matthew Keyes offering Alex a position in the CIA, but her decision remains to be seen when the show returns for season 2. The agent is expected to take the new post, but what awaits her in the agency makes the storyline more interesting. 

If one thing is for sure, a new face will be joining the show: Russell Tovey. The actor has been recently cast as a series regular, and according to showrunner Josh Safran, the role was tailor-made for him. "Ever since being introduced to him in The History Boys 10 years ago, I've hoped to work with Russell.," Safran told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's been an honor for the writers and myself to be able to create this role specifically for him." Tovey portrays the role of Harry Doyle, who is somewhat like a grown-up version of the Artful Dodger  from "Oliver Twist." He is characterized as being "just as likely to seduce your husband as he is to pick his pocket when it's over."

Additionally, Safran hints that a "surprising twist at the end of Act 1" related to Alex's move to the CIA awaits viewers in the season 2 Fall premiere. The FBI has always maintained its stand on the truth, but the CIA's opposite views might change Alex's perspective. "We're very interested in the fact that the FBI's so much about being honest, truthful and living up to your badge and the CIA is the opposite," the showrunner explained. "You succeed if you can deceive. So it's going to be interesting to see. It's like a funhouse mirror of what we've seen."

"Quantico" returns to Sundays at 10 p.m. this Fall. As of now, the network has yet to announce a premiere date.
