'Reign' season 4 plot news, spoilers updates: Will Mary regain power in Scotland?

Will "Reign" season 4 finally see Mary back in her beloved Scotland? That's what fans will find out when the series returns for its fourth installment, which is also rumored to be its last.

The past season of The CW's period drama saw Mary, Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane) getting out of her land due to various adventures and problems. War and violence took center stage in Mary's domain, tearing the country apart. Even her own cousin connived to unseat her.

Now it looks like the negative changes that happened in season 3 will continue through to season 4, as it delves on how Mary will pick up the pieces and ultimately return to Scotland. Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, revealed that much during the Golden Globes,

"We've got to find out if she goes back to Scotland," Variety quoted him as saying.

Some fans have apparently expressed dismay at the slow pace Mary's return to Scotland is taking. Hence, they are taking Pedowitz' earlier statement as an indication that perhaps, finally, Mary will be back to her roots.

Nevertheless, that's not the only major thing worth anticipating when "Reign" season 4 returns. Mary, as it is, is still mourning the death of her husband Francis (Toby Regbo). Yet, when the series returns next year, Mary will have several new suitors, two of which will be her future husbands.

It has been reported previously that "Van Helsing" star Will Kemp has been tapped to play Lord Darnley, Mary's second husband. According to speculations, Mary and Lord Darnley will have a child together, but the union will be cut short, with Mary supposedly the one behind her second husband's death.

"EastEnders" alum Adam Croasdell will play the Earl of Bothwell, Mary's third husband, who is described as a mischievous bad boy whose loyalty to Mary is unmatched.

Meanwhile, there are speculations that "Reign" season 4 will the series' swan song. There are rumors that the show's third season didn't quite do well in the ratings department, which is why only 16 episodes were ordered for season 4.

Fans feel the show is eventually getting axed, but the showrunners are positive that season 4 will do well, that the show has a bright future on The CW, and that there will be another season following the upcoming one.

"Reign" season 4 is expected to premiere sometime next year, although The CW is yet to announce an official air date. In the meantime, keep coming back for more news and updates about the show.
