'Reign' season 4 premiere date, spoilers news 2016: New characters on board; will the Queen of Scots get married again?

The third season of "Reign" recently came to a close an intense and heartbreaking finale, as Lola (Anna Popplewell) was beheaded after Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) discovered that she was betrayed by the person whom she trusted so much. Fans are looking forward to seeing what season 4 has in store for them, particularly about Mary's (Adelaide Kane) romantic life.

As noted by TV Line, three new characters will be introduced once the show returns. Two of them will vie for Mary's heart, including "warm-hearted bad boy" Bothwell and Lord Danley who has a "wildly ambitious mother whose love hinges entirely on his ability to secure a crown." Meanwhile, Narcisse's son Gabriel characterized as a "sexy and highborn rogue who is also a plain-speaking realist" will be on board as well, and he will try to marry Princess Claude.

"Van Helsing" star Will Kemp recently snagged the series regular role of Lord Danley, and based on the history books, he will eventually be Mary's second husband. They eventually end their marriage after Darnley becomes too arrogant of his power, and Queen Mary became the main suspect when he died.  "Bitten" alum Steve Lund will give life to Gabriel while the actor who will play the role of Bothwell is yet to be named.

Torrance Coombs who portrayed the character of Bash was previously confirmed to exit the show to focus on another historical drama. The actor will join Shonda Rhimes' new series titled "Still Star-Crossed," where he will be one of the lead stars. In an interview, Coombs mentioned that he misses the show's cast and crew who became like his family, adding that he'd be open to returning sometime in the future to reprise his role.

As of this writing, The CW has yet to announce an official premiere date for "Reign" season 4.
