'Shadowhunters' season 2 release date, cast news update: Sebastian to be introduced next season

The second season of "Shadowhunters" is currently in the works and rumors about the upcoming season are spiraling all over the internet. Recent speculations suggest that Sebastian Morgenstern will be introduced in the forthcoming season.

Showrunner Todd Slavkin recently responded to a fan who was asking if Sebastian is going to appear already. He posted on Twitter, "Haven't set my stop watch, but the books don't lie #ShadowhuntersSeason2 #patience #bas."

The showrunner dropped more hints on Twitter about season 2. He tweeted, "Bust out the Kleenex... But some of your tears will be tears of happiness and laughter #ShadowhuntersSeason2 #simonisfunny"

"Shadowhunters" is the TV adaptation of Cassandra Clare's fantasy novels titled "The Mortal Instruments."

To note, in the novels, Sebastian is a feared antagonist. He is Clary's (Katherine McNamara) older brother. Unlike his sister, Sebastian is evil because when his mother was pregnant with him, Valentine (Alan Van Sprang) kept on infusing demon Lilith's blood into her system. Hence, Sebastian is not only a shadowhunter; he is also a demon hybrid. Jace (Dominic Sherwood) knows so little about Sebastian because Valentine kept his biological son a secret from him.

A new character that is set to appear in the second season is Maia, who is a werewolf. The character will be portrayed by Alisha Wainwright. Another actor who signed up to be a recurring character in the show is Nick Sagar. He will be portraying the Clave representative, Victor. The announcement was delivered last month.

The main cast will be reprising their roles for the upcoming season.

Freeform has yet to announce a release date for the second season of "Shadowhunters." However, it is expected to premiere on the small screen sometime next year.
