'Steven Universe' season 3 updates: 'Gem Hunt' shows Connie on her first Gem mission

Screencap from the "Steven Universe" sneak peek of the episode "Gem Hunt." | Cartoon Network

After months of the show on hiatus, fans of "Steven Universe" are happy to be getting new episodes nightly for the third season during the ongoing Steven Bomb. Leaked footage of the next episode in "Steven Universe" season 3, titled "Gem Hunt," has been released online, and it follows Steven, Connie and Pearl on a mission to retrieve a corrupted gem.

In the clip, the trio is shown arriving in front of a monument that looks exactly like a larger version of the "wailing stone" that the gems recovered back in the first season. Steven then takes pictures of the two in order to commemorate the event, which is Connie's first mission (Steven was asked to take pictures by Connie's parents). The three then start searching for the gem, and the clip ends when a monstrous roar is heard offscreen.

Based on some of the dialogues, it seems that Connie has already improved well in her sword-fighting. Back in the episode titled "Sworn to the Sword," Pearl took on Connie as her apprentice, in order for Connie to be able to help Steven during battles. Connie was also given Rose-Quartz's sword by Steven, and fans can see in the clip that she brought that sword with her.

Fans are all excited with the recent developments that "Steven Universe" has been going through. Aside from some filler episodes, a lot of the story is moving forward and more information about the gems and their homeworld is slowly being revealed. Even during the episode "Kiki's Delivery Service," more of Steven's abilities were explored despite the episode having nothing to do with the bigger story.

Sneak peeks for the other episodes of "Steven Universe" season 3 have been released as well. The teasers have made fans excited to meet that one gem which was one of the older members of the Crystal Gems back in the Gem War — Bismuth. She looks to be a rowdy character with multi-colored dreadlocks.

"Gem Hunt" will air on Monday, Aug. 1 on Cartoon Network.
