A month after "Stranger Things" was launched in Netflix, viewers are still raving about the '80s-themed series by The Duffer Brothers. With its copious homages to the Hollywood horror genre and great musical scoring, more viewers got hooked on the riveting tale about a young boy's sudden disappearance.

The streaming giant has yet to greenlight a season renewal, but it's never too early to talk about what lies ahead after the shocking season 1 finale. During the show's Television Critics Association panel discussion, series co-creators/twin brothers Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer shared their insights and plans on a possible sophomore run.

According to Ross, they plan on picking up the story right where the finale left off. "Will was living in this upside-down dimension for about a week, and the repercussions of that can't be good," he said. "So a lot of it is exploring that, and this interdimensional rift is still very much open — so that also can't be good."

Both creators mentioned that the goal for next season is to build the story slowly as opposed to starting everything off with a huge event. Ross says season 2 will be "a little bit darker," while Matt hints the whole storyline will be structured differently.

Netflix's content chief Ted Sarandos was also present in the event, and he clarified why the network still can't give the go signal for season 2 just yet. He stressed the importance of letting the show sit first while they conceptualize on the direction it will take.

"We always want to take some time to be thoughtful about the process," he explained. "When we first come out of the gate with something, we have an idea where it's going to go, but it's sensible for us to let the show breathe. People are falling in love with it, let's focus on season one."

Once renewed, the second season of "Stranger Things" is expected to premiere next year on Netflix.
