'The Originals' season 4 spoilers, plot news: Showrunner confirms time jump in season 4, Marcel to be the new villain?

The third season of "The Originals" recently came to a close with a devastating finale, along with some interesting plot twists which make fans wish season 4 was just around the corner.

Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) is about to have Klaus answer to Davina's (Danielle Campbell) death but to the wrongdoings to all his old enemies in "The Originals" season 3 finale "The Bloody Crown." | Bob Mahoney/The CW

The Mikaelsons took a huge blow in the finale after all of the original vampires got incapacitated at the same time, leaving fans clueless of how season 4 will play out. Hayley might be the vampire family's only chance, but the can't possibly do it all on her own. Will she have a new ally to help her? "There were hints in the finale of what Hayley's next move is going to be," executive producer Michael Narducci told TV Line. "I don't want to say too much, but I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that Hayley will look to find a way — either by using her own vampire power or by using a witch — to try to communicate with [everyone in the dream world]. She has a giant puzzle to figure out in order to cure everyone, and given that they're dying from a wolf bite, I think you can guess who she might turn to."

There are also talks about Marcel being the new villain in the show. However, Narducci does not want to label the character as the new antagonist just yet. "I have never once thought of Marcel as a villain," the EP told TV Guide. "He has his own code of honor. He wants what's best for the city of New Orleans even if that means he's got to punish and execute the people that would try to disrupt the peace that he has established...They did something that was, by Marcel's judgement, morally reprehensible. Now he's taken his revenge."

Hayley's goal is to cure Elijah, Kol, Freya and Rebekah. On the other hand, viewers are wondering who will be there to rescue Klaus. According to Narducci, it's difficult to assume that the Mikaelsons will save him. There is a possibility that he might save himself, or another person outside of the family will rescue him. As for how season 4 will kick off, the executive producer confirmed that a time jump will happen. "We are going to have a little bit of a time jump in between when the story ends at the end of the finale and when we pick up in Season 4," he said. "That experience in the time jump will be similar to what the audience is feeling. To me, in a way, it actually makes sense."

The network has yet to announce an official release date for "The Originals" season 4, but reports say that the show will be back next year.
