Was Christina Grimmie killed because of her Christian faith?

Christina Grimmie, a former contestant of "The Voice," may have been shot to death late Friday, June 10 after her concert in Orlando because of her Christian faith.

The 22-year-old pop singer was signing autographs at The Plaza Live Theater after performing with the band Before You Exit when she was shot by 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl, who reportedly traveled a distance of about 107 miles from St. Petersburg just to commit the horrendous act. Grimmie succumbed to the gunshot wounds Saturday morning.

According to Santa Monica Observer, the Orlando police are considering the murder as a hate crime following the investigation on the gunman's mobile records and online rantings. The outlet reported that it "has become increasingly apparent" to the investigators that the murder was inspired because of the singer's "outspoken Christian faith."

Grimmie, who became a YouTube sensation in July 2009, garnered much attention for her rendition of "In Christ Alone." She also considered herself as a "full-on Christian who loves Jesus," the "Lord and Savior" whom she sang for, and shared that her favorite book was the Bible, according to the Gospel Herald.

She also maintained a website where she discussed her Christian faith.

In one article she titled "Why Do You Call Yourself A Christian?" she wrote, "We need to be awoken to the magnitude of the gospel every day. Where do we start? Let's do what Jesus says.

"Even if we lose our lives, there is nothing more important that following Jesus with everything that we are. If you have read this, God is pursuing you. My fervent prayer is that we all may deeply know Jesus and know what he demands when He says 'Follow Me.' May our eyes be opened to know exactly what it means when we say 'I am a Christian.'"

Grimmie's brother, Marcus, has been hailed as a hero for saving countless lives when he quickly tackled the shooter upon hearing the gunshots. Loibl shot himself dead shortly afterwards.
