'Thor Ragnarok' cast news: Natalie Portman will not return; actress says she's 'done' with Marvel

Taika Waititi's "Thor Ragnarok" is currently filming in Australia, but no news has come out about whether Natalie Portman's character Jane Foster will appear in the movie — until now. Portman's character will reportedly not appear in the third Thor movie, and what's more, Portman also says that she is "done" with Marvel.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Portman said, "As far as I know, I'm done... I don't know if, maybe, one day they'll ask for an 'Avengers 7' or whatever. I have no idea! But as far as I know I'm done." The good news is that it seems she is not bitter about not being cast in the film. It's more of she's unsure where her character might pop up again.

The last time viewers got to see Jane Foster onscreen was during the second Thor movie, "Thor: The Dark World," back in 2013. She was possessed by one of the Infinity Stones and brought by Thor (Chris Hemsworth) back to Asgard to seek help from his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins). The last mention of Jane was during the second Avengers movie, "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," where Thor boasts about Jane receiving a nomination for a Nobel Prize.

Fans may not be so dismayed at the news of Portman's absence as she is considered to be one of the weaker elements of the Thor films. Without Jane, fans can also expect that her assistant Darcy (Kat Dennings) will also be absent. Stellan Skarsgard's character, Doctor Selvig, has been present in for all the Thor movies and even two Avengers movies, so it may be likely that he appears in "Ragnarok."

Perhaps the reason why Jane Foster is absent from the movie is because the plot is said to focus more on Thor journeying through the cosmos. Loki (Tom Hiddleston), disguised as Odin, is said to banish Thor from Asgard, and Thor finds himself in a gladiator-type planet where he runs into Bruce Banner a.k.a. The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

"Thor: Ragnarok" will hit theaters in November of next year.
