'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 release date latest news: Launch nearing? Ken Kaneki takes on new identity due to amnesia?

Fans of "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 were left panicking when reports came out that the next installment may not be released until 2017. Nevertheless, latest reports hint that the anime may see a winter 2016 release, if things go as planned.

The anime is still in development, and the studios are yet to provide a definite premiere date. However, speculations are rife that it will return this winter along with an interesting plot twist. Apparently, lead character Ken Kaneki will be taking on a new identity due to amnesia.

A report from Otakukart says MadHouse Productions will handle "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3, allowing the upcoming installment to follow the original manga closely. The first and second seasons of the anime were handled by Studio Pierrot, and according to some fans, the anime didn't stay true to the source material; thus, a change is in order in season 3.

Fans of the original manga know that Kaneki lost his memories, leading to his becoming a Ghoul Investigator. As one, he took on the name Haise Sasaki, although as the story progressed, he was seen regaining his memories. It remains to be seen if the anime will follow the manga or if it will add more arcs to prolong Kaneki's amnesia.

Talks are likewise rife that the upcoming season of the anime will shift focus from Kaneki to Touka Kirishima who is bent on getting her college degree. A possible reason why she could become "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3's new lead character is Kaneki's amnesia and to bring closure to her arc.

Should Kaneki regain his lost memories in season 3, some reports speculate that the season finale might see him in an epic battle with his mentor, Arima.

MadHouse Productions have not officially confirmed nor denied their involvement in "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3.

Meanwhile, a recent report hints that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 might actually see a Winter release. However, unless an official announcement is made, everything is pure speculation.
