"Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 won't premiere this year, according to the latest reports. This is allegedly because the production team is awaiting new content from the manga.

This could be an indication that unlike the second season of the anime, which was originally inspired by Sui Ishida's manga, the new season of "Tokyo Ghoul" will be loyal to its source material.

Many fans went on an outrage following the airing of the second season of "Tokyo Ghoul because it drastically strayed from the manga. The show felt like it was rebooted from the first season, which followed Ishida's stories religiously.

The fact that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 won't be aired this year was taken to mean that there will be improvements and that Madhouse, who will be taking the reins on animation from Studio Pierrot, will take its sweet time in stitching the new season together.

No concrete details about the "Tokyo Ghoul" anime have been revealed, although a delay, usually a bad sign for many, restores confidence to fans that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will take after its source.

However, there are contrasting reports that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will shift its focus to Touka Kirishima instead of main character Ken Kaneki. Anime Maru reported last year that she will finally get the spotlight she did not enjoy in the previous season.

A "Tokyo Ghoul" writer who asked not to be named, also revealed to the site that the new season will be the anime's boldest one yet. "This is perhaps the most disillusioning, psychological and darkest plot line that we will attempt to adapt," the writer said.

"We hope to remain as faithful as possible to the source material, although we cannot guarantee that more gory scenes such as Touka's standardized exam test-taking will not be censored," he added.

Touka's journey to college will allegedly be the storyline that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will go for.
