2018 Chevrolet Traverse release date, specs, price news: all-new full-size SUV gains bolder looks, more spacious cabin
Chevrolet has introduced the 2018 Traverse which has been completely redesigned for the new model year. The full-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) features a bold, refined design, a more spacious cabin and technologies to ensure that passengers are safe and connected.
"The all-new Traverse offers the ultimate in style and convenience for the segment, with the versatility customers need and a thoughtful, spacious design they'll love. It's the midsize SUV designed to help keep you safe, comfortable and connected," said Alan Batey, president of GM North America and brand chief of Global Chevrolet.
The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse gains premium design elements like chrome accents and light-emitting diode (LED) signature lighting. It has also been given a longer wheelbase to offer seating for up to eight passengers. This also translates to greater storage options and larger bins throughout the cabin.
Some of the new features include a bowtie logo lamp to illuminate the ground so that drivers will know where to place their foot to activate the hands-free power liftgate and a split-folding second-row seat to provide easy access to the third row.
Furthermore, Chevrolet has also added two new trim levels to meet the different needs of customers. The sporty RS trim will give the crossover a unique, blacked-out appearance thanks to the black chrome grille, black bowtie and 20-inch wheels. Meanwhile, the luxurious High Country adds Loft Brown leather upholstery with suede accents, 20-inch polished wheels, High Country badging and D-Optic headlamps. It also comes standard with the twin-clutch AWD and power-fold third-row seats.
In terms of connectivity, the all-new Traverse's MyLink infotainment system is available in 7-inch and 8-inch diagonal displays. It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as the OnStar 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot feature. There are also USB charging ports in all three rows. Optional features include wireless charging and a steering wheel with phone and audio controls.
Chevrolet also offers customers a comprehensive suite of safety technologies so that they will have peace of mind while on the road. These include Surround Vision cameras, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Collision Alert and Low and High-Speed Forward Automatic Braking.
The 2018 Traverse is powered by a new 3.6-liter V6 engine that is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. All models come with intelligent start/stop technology. Meanwhile, the RS trim will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that offers more horsepower and torque.
The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse will be available to purchase in the fall. Pricing will be announced at a later date.
