'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 4 release date, spoilers news: Phil Coulson's replacement as S.H.I.E.L.D. director revealed
The biggest mystery in the upcoming fourth season of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is perhaps the identity of the new S.H.I.E.L.D. director.
To recall, Season 3 finale of the show featured a six-month flashforward scene that showed the aftermath of the organization's deadly battle with Hydra and its primeval leader, Hive. S.H.I.E.L.D. has succeeded in obliterating Hive. Daisy Johnson, also known by her Inhuman name Quake, has gone rogue and officially parted ways with S.H.I.E.L.D., but the organization was seen pursuing her. Agent Phil Coulson led the mission to pursue Daisy, but the latter immediately escaped. The interesting part of the scene is when Coulson told Mack to call the director, meaning that he is no longer the S.H.I.E.L.D. director.
As reported by Screen Crush, the new director that replaced Coulson is still unnamed, although it is confirmed that actor Jason O'Mara will be playing the mysterious character. The first promotional stills for "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 released by TV Line include O'Mara assuming the director post.
The only known fact about O'Mara's character is his possible roots that date all the way back to the 1940s. If that is not intriguing enough, Deadline reported that the name of O'Mara's character was purposely omitted from the official synopsis for the fourth season. This could mean that the character is known among the Marvel comic book readers, and the production team does not want to spoil the mystery yet regarding the new director.
Meanwhile, iDigital Times reported that aside from O'Mara, "Matador" actor Gabriel Luna will also be introduced in the fourth season as the series' own version of the Ghost Rider. Contrary to the previous depiction of the Ghost Rider in the movies, Luna will play the character of Robbie Reyes instead. Mallory Jansen is also set to appear as the robotic character named Aida.
Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will be transferred to its new 10 p.m. timeslot starting on Sept. 20.
