While Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant" will be released earlier, fans of the "Alien" franchise are also looking forward to another installment, "Alien 5," which will bring back original actors Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn into the popular film series.

Weaver, who starred as the legendary Ellen Ripley in the original "Alien" films, recently talked about the upcoming "Alien 5," which will reportedly pick up after "Aliens" (1986), the second film in the series, essentially de-canonizing "Alien 3" (1992) and "Alien: Resurrection" (1997).

The as-yet-untitled "Alien 5" will be directed by Neill Blomkamp of "District 9" and "Elysium" fame.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Weaver spoke about how "Alien 5" will differ from those before it.

"The script itself has so much in it that's so original, but also really satisfies the, I would say, the primal needs of the aliens," she said.

Weaver also revealed that there is already a script for the upcoming installment and that Fox had asked the people behind the film to delay its production so that Scott could film "Alien: Covenant," the sequel to his "Prometheus" (2012).

"That was too bad because we would have already done it by now," the actress said. "It's a great story and it's satisfying to me to give this woman an ending."

Because the film was delayed, it is now unclear when it will be released or even made. Weaver and Blomkamp are both currently busy with other projects.

"But it will be worth the wait when we finally get to it," she assured fans.

In a previous interview with EW, Weaver revealed that "Alien 5" will be taking a detour from the events in the third and fourth "Alien" films, saying, "It's just as if, you know, the path forks and one direction goes off to three and four and another direction goes off to Neill's movie."

The premiere date for "Alien 5" has yet to be announced.
