'Arrow' season 5 release date, plot & cast spoilers: Cody Rhodes teases feud with Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen
Professional wrestler Cody Rhodes appears to have confirmed that he is set to play a villain in the upcoming "Arrow" season 5.
In a recent Twitter post, which Rhodes captioned "Walk up in the gym like ...#StarCityTraining," the wrestler/actor wears a training jacket with the words "Season 5 Arrow, "Team Rhodes," and "Destroy Queen" on it.
Oliver Queen/Green Arrow is the titular superhero played by Stephen Amell in the series.
At last week's "Arrow" panel during the Heroes & Villains FanFest in New Jersey, Amell confirmed that Rhodes is coming to "Arrow" season 5. The announcement was livestreamed via Facebook Live.
"We have a new guest star on 'Arrow' this year: Mr. Cody Rhodes," he said, as quoted by ComicBook.com.
"I'm so fired up for this guy; he and I haven't really had much of a chance to talk about it but we've been friends for a little over a year now," the actor added. "I know that Cody has really wanted to get into the acting business. He went to LA, he read for a part, and his deal closed yesterday and the dude is going to be on 'Arrow' and I'm so fired up."
At the time, Amell did not reveal whether Rhodes is playing an ally or an enemy of Green Arrow. However, given the WWE star's build and his previous relationship with Amell, "Arrow" fans suspected that Rhodes is playing a DC Comics villain in "Arrow" season 5.
Rhodes and Amell fought in a much-hyped WWE bout in 2015 after Rhodes, whose WWE ring name is Stardust, caught the "Arrow" star's attention with his antics. The two famously went on a social media war of words for several weeks before duking it out in a fight that was telecast by the WWE. Amell won the fight.
"Arrow" season 5 will reportedly begin production later this month in Vancouver, as will "The Flash," "Supergirl," and "Legends of Tomorrow."
The new season is expected to introduce the live-action versions of the DC Comics superheroes Wild Dog and Vigilante to the small screen for the first time.
"Arrow" season 5 debuts on Oct. 5.
