"Arrow" star Stephen Amell recently spoke about the show's creative ups and downs, the possibility of it ending with season 5, and what the "Arrow" team needs to do for the series to continue.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Amell acknowledged the problems the show encountered in its fourth season. "I put my heart and soul into every day of work and every episode, but at the same time there is a lull in any relationship where you need to have a 'come to Jesus' moment, so to speak," the actor said.

According to Amell, this happened to him in the latter half of "Arrow" season 4, when he felt like some things had gotten lost in the shuffle and that the show needed to shift its focus in its next season. As for what it is that "Arrow" needs to focus on, Amell explained that the show is, at its heart, a street-level crime show, and it is at its best when it focuses on the crime-fighting aspect.

Amell further revealed that unless "Arrow" manages to capture the "magic formula," it could end much sooner than fans expect. As such, the actor said that season 5 is a critical one for the show.

"If we find that magic formula — which is not magic, it's just hard work and playing to your strengths — then the show could go on for a really long time," he concluded.

Meanwhile, actor Josh Segarra, who plays Star City district attorney Adrian Chase, as well as his alter ego Vigilante, recently spoke to the press about his role and shared that he is excited to portray a character that is based off of literature.

At the recent "Arrow" 100th episode party, the actor told ComicBook.com that he wants his portrayal to stay true to the comic book. "The biggest question that I have for myself as an actor is 'why does this person become the person that they are?'" Segarra said.

Segarra is due to make his "Arrow" debut as Vigilante in the seventh episode of the current season. The episode, titled "Vigilante," will also introduce the villain Konstantin Kovar, who will be played by "Rocky IV" actor Dolph Lundgren.

"Arrow" season 5 airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
