Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford news: Fisher reveals 'intense' affair with Ford while filming 'Star Wars'
Carrie Fisher has dropped a bombshell about an affair she had with a "Star Wars" co-star four decades ago.
The "Star Wars" star recently went public with a secret she has kept for many years. According to Fisher, when she was 19 and filming the original "Star Wars" trilogy in 1976, she and Harrison Ford, her co-star, had an "intense" affair.
Fisher plays Princess/General Leia Organa in the "Star Wars" films while Ford plays her love interest Han Solo. The pair first worked together on "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope," which was released in 1977. They recently reunited after more than 30 years to star in last year's box office hit "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens."
In a recent interview with People, Fisher dished about her three-month affair with Ford, who was 34, married, and had two children at the time.
"It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend," the actress, now 60, said. "It was so intense," she added.
According to People, Fisher had stumbled upon old journals she had kept during the filming of the first "Star Wars" film and felt that the time had come to speak up about the experience.
Fisher recalled that the first night she spent with Ford was after a birthday party for "A New Hope" director George Lucas. The actress said that she was ridden with self-doubt and insecurity afterwards. "How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?" she recalled asking herself.
While the pair's fling ended after the film wrapped, Fisher said that she looks back on that time fondly. "I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him," she said about Ford, now 74. "He was kind."
Fisher also spoke about Ford's reaction to her announcement that she was writing about the affair in her memoir, titled "The Princess Diarist."
"He went, 'Lawyer!'" the actress said.
"I called him and said, 'Where are you? I'm sending it to you,'" she said. "I don't want to embarrass anyone and he's very private. I said, 'I know you're not going to be excited but...'"
On Wednesday, Nov. 16, Fisher addressed the affair on Twitter, writing "When you are 19 everything is intense."
